Dear Prayer & Support Partners:
It is once again time to send out a brief update. I
know that "brief" is not something you normally associate with
our emails, but I promise to be at least "more brief" than usual
with this one! We are very busy with final preparations to return to the
field. I leave Sept. 11, Lord willing (a great day to be flying :-)! and
Kathie and Andrew will be leaving on Sept. 22, if all goes to plan. I will
be flying directly to Bucharest, Romania, and then will be teaching at the
school at Fetesti. From there I take the train on over to Chishinau,
Moldova, and will meet Kathie & Andrew there. We will be very busy
there with the final preparations for the wedding which takes place on the
28th, Lord willing. It is an exciting time, so we are just seeking the
Lord's clear provision and direction.
After the wedding is over, Kathie & Andrew will
return to the US. I have to go on to Kyiv to teach, and then from there on
to Moscow for another session of classes. I will be teaching Bibliology. I
have several other responsibilities to handle in some of the churches in
all these areas, as well as several orphanages to get to. I also have a
set of Betty Lukan's flannelgraph that has been provided for us by a
family in Wisconsin. I will be taking that to one of our children's
workers, Tatiana, in Kyiv. It will be a great joy to her to have that, and
it will be a great blessing to the children to whom she ministers. She
works in a village several hours out of Kyiv by train. She also does
various ministries in Kyiv and closer to there. I know that she will make
good use of this resource.
August has been very busy, PTL! We have had some
excellent meetings in and around the Arizona area. We've had meetings in
Bagdad, AZ, Scottsdale, Showlow, and Tucson. This final weekend we are in
Kingman, and then Henderson, NV. Our last meeting is in Humboldt, AZ, just
before I leave for the field. We've had the opportunity to be in several
new churches, and we are looking for the Lord to direct these folks
concerning their involvement with our ministry.
Not a whole lot more to report this time. Just please
continue to pray for the ministry and for our family. We are looking
forward to seeing our new granddaughter toward the end of November, Lord
willing. That will be an exciting time as well.
Please pray for a great couple of months of service
in Romania, Ukraine, Prednestrovya and Russia. Please pray for all of the
events and necessary arrangements for the wedding, and for the US Embassy
to grant Aliona's visa without problems. Please pray for new meetings when
I return in November to take us through the end of the year, and for my
return to the field in January.
Thank you again for your involvement with us. You
folks are dear to us. We appreciate you so very much.
In His Great and Loving Grace,
Doc & Kathie Brewer
PS: I am of course now in Russia. We have completed
several successful weeks over here already. The classes in Fetesti,
Romania, were a blessing. We had 24 keen and gracious students there, and
I believe that it was a profitable time. From there we were in Moldova for
all of the special events. As always, I enjoyed speaking at the churches
at Loganesti and then at Duralesti. I also had opportunity to meet with
the folks up in Teghina, Transnistrya. We looked at a property that is for
sale up there as a possible building for the group, but the price that is
being asked is more than we can afford or would feel the Lord would have
us spend. Pray for a good rental situation for them. Then there was the
wedding. It was a very wonderful time. The "official" state
wedding was at the magistrate's office on Friday, and the the church
wedding on Sunday. It was a combination of Moldovan and American. I
performed the church wedding with the vows and wedding sermon, etc. The
bride was beautiful and it was a happy day. However, after several weeks
of agony dealing with the Moldovan officials to get everything they
required accomplished, it then came to the US to really hit us hard. We
got through everything with Moldova and everything there is official and
settled. However, the US Consulate in Moldova refused to approve the visa
application, so we are now stuck in an appeals process to get our
daughter-in-law back to America. I had purchased airline tickets for Nov.
4 for our return (Andrew and Kathie had to return on Friday Oct. 3 because
of Andrew's job), but it now appears that we will not make that date.
Kathie and Andrew are working on things from the US, and we are hoping to
get a temporary visa from that end so that I can bring her home. However,
it will be at least mid-November or later before that will happen. We will
appreciate your prayers with us regarding this matter.
The classes went well in Kyiv. Our attendance was
down considerably over the past, but we still had about 35 students. The
attendance here in Dyedovsk is up a little (17, officially). The class
times have gone well thus far with just the normal glitches.
We had the great joy of taking some of the stuffed
animals that were supplied by a church in Iowa to several orphanages and
to the children's hospital at Kyiv. What fun that was to see the
children's faces light up with these gifts. Also, to present the
Flannelgraph to Tatiana, and also to arrange for a small keyboard for her
to carry to the villages to enhance the music there. Then we were also
able to take the last of our baby formula reserves to the children's
hospial where we distributed the stuffed animals. There is a little baby
there, Nikita, a 3 month old who's mother is in jail and father unknown.
The formula will be used to meet his needs.
So, after this week in Dyedovsk, I return to Ukraine
for about a week and then back to Moldova and eventually to Romania,
hopefully with my daughter-in-law, for our return to the US. The churches
here at Yubileynaya and Istra are both very grateful for the funds that we
have supplied for the completion of their buildings, $10,000 for
Yubileynaya and $5000 for Istra, where we were this past Sunday. I look
forward to being at the fellowhship at Desna this coming Sunday, and also
making a trip over to Lutsk for more distribution of the stuffed animals
at the orphanage there and also to see Bro. Melanchuk's work there.
