Sergei Levitsky is in charge of BIEM's ministry to homeless children in Kyiv,
Ukraine, which received a tremendous boost from the city--an agreement that enables
the homeless children's
ministry to lease several rooms at low cost. A
legal provision in Kyiv allows the city to lease space to humanitarian efforts
at 1/50 of the standard rate. However, due to mountains of bureaucracy and
complicated application procedures involved, ministries are seldom able to
benefit from the provision. This great blessing is a testimony to the
dedication and abilities of our Ukrainian staff.
Extensive
repairs on the building have already been done, both inside and out. Of course,
much refurbishing still needs to be accomplished. But we thank God that,
finished or not, the building is ours to use for ministry. Street kids come
without fear to receive a snack, and they learn about the Lord
Our
Homeless Children’s Center in Ukraine has a serious need. God has blessed this
outreach in a wonderful way, as you have probably read in our newsletter, The
Challenger. We saw a tremendous response (over $10,000!) to the need
for repairing and remodeling this once-dilapidated building. Your support
enabled us to restore the building to good condition. Another $10,000 will make
it possible to furnish the rooms, equip the kitchen, and create a playground. A
dependable van for the children’s work would cost about $15,000. Simply
operating this center now requires about $1,000/month for staff salaries,
utilities, food, and other care for the children. Therefore, regular monthly
support for this ministry is also needed.
