BIEMs of Light: July 2006

Praises Rejoice with us!

v Last month we requested special prayer for Volodya Makarenko in Dyedovsk, Russia. Praise God, his high blood pressure has improved, and his heart seems to be working normally again. Volodya thanks everyone who remembered him in prayer.

v     On May 6 missionary Tim Smith married Luda Lutaya, the daughter of a Ukrainian pastor. They led a teen girl to Christ while honeymooning and are now in eastern Russia, where two churches in Magadan and Palatka are growing spiritually and numerically. They had a baptism on June 25!

v     While visiting churches in the U.S., Vitaly & Alexandra Keller experienced a serious health problem. Alexandra required hospitalization and nearly lost the child she is carrying. However, not only did the Lord bring healing, but He took care of their $100,000 hospital bill! Now they’re back in Russia, where New Life Baptist Church is thriving. The church held a special outreach to 60 unsaved young people, and then another for about 40 war veterans. Some souls recently put their trust in Christ.

v     BIEM’s Central Asia workers share that a pastor from Turkmenistan who left that country when authorities plotted to kill him has gone back. There are about 100 people from his family and his tribe that he wanted to witness to, and now he reports that some of them have accepted Christ!

v     The door for evangelism has opened widely in the former Soviet nation of Georgia! One of BIEM’s missionaries in Russia is considering moving in order to begin a new work in Georgia. Please pray that God will give definite direction in this opportunity for evangelism.

Prayer Pray with us!

v     David and Ann, BIEM’s missionaries to Central Asia, faced a setback when doctors decided Ann needed knee-replacement surgery. That operation took place on June 27. Please pray for healing.

v     Summer camps in Eastern Europe have already begun! Please pray for the salvation of many souls, for spiritual growth for believing children, and for wisdom for all the adult leaders of the camps.

v     Our shipping container of supplies arrived at a Black Sea port in Ukraine. Because customs procedures can be complicated, please pray for the men who handle this paperwork and arrange to get the container trucked to its final destination in the city of Fastiv.

v     Please pray specifically for the salvation of the father of BIEM translator Vika Sychov, who is a scientist. He was impressed with the education of our seminary professors, but then declared it a shame that such fine minds are “wasted” on religion! Also pray for the salvation of Dr. Petroshyshun, who is Ron Brewer’s physician in Moldova. He believes in God but has not yet accepted Christ.
