BIEMs of Light: January 2005

PraisesRejoice with us!

v      In autumn 2004, Fred Canaday reported an opportunity to buy a four-acre tract of property for a Christian children’s camp in a scenic region of Romania. To purchase the property, $5,000 were needed. Praise God, we have now received the full amount designated for this camp!

v      In December, the Sychovs prayed for an opportunity to present the Gospel to teens at the high school in Desna, Ukraine. God answered their prayers! School officials invited them to participate in a school assembly. With help from church members, they presented a play that emphasized the meaning of Christmas and invited the teens to their Bible study.

v      Near Moscow, Volodya Makarenko had good opportunities to visit the homes of 19 handicapped children to distribute gifts and children’s Bibles for Christmas. On December 27, he also was able to have a special service for orphaned children and street children. He describes these outreaches as fruitful, but they require time and helpers.

v      In November and December, Pastor Peter Rumachik was able to visit over 20 churches in America (plus Christian schools and pastors’ meetings). The love offerings from these services will provide much-needed help for church building projects in Russia!

v      Earlier we requested prayer that the Lord would send a buyer for the former home of Rick and Pam Barry. The Lord answered; that house sold on December 23.

v      Our most recent container of Christian literature, Bible curriculum, clothing, and other helpful items left in December and will be traveling by ship during January. Please pray that this arrives and clears Customs in Ukraine with no difficulties.

v      In Transnistria, Moldova, church planter Slavic Axente is excited about a new home in which he will be leading mid-week Bible studies. He requests prayer as he leads people in understanding God’s Word.

v      In Kyiv, Ukraine, Nikolay Glavnik, the Rector of Kyiv Theological School, wrote, “Dozens of men who received their education at Kyiv Seminary are now active leaders who minister in the churches in Ukraine. Next year [2005] if God allows, we want to have a meeting dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Kyiv Theological Seminary.” Please pray for all those currently studying for future ministries in Eastern Europe.

v      In Tandarei, Romania, Iulian Stoian wants to arrange more special meetings for evangelism. He requests prayer for victory over Satan and for the salvation of souls.

v      The winner in Ukraine’s presidential election (Victor Yushchenko) is the man that our brethren overseas felt would be best for keeping Ukraine open for ministry. However, during the campaign, this man was poisoned and obviously faces opponents willing to take drastic measures against him.  Please continue praying for the political situation in Ukraine; that evil would be overcome, and good will prevail.
